Common questions

Everything you might want to ask.

Ordering, delivery, how the food arrives and what’s actually in it. If something isn’t here, call us on 616-822-0706.

Ordering
When do I need to order by?Order by Saturday and your food is cooked and ready the following Wednesday. Anything ordered after Saturday goes into the next available week.
When will I get it?Delivery usually arrives Wednesday afternoon, generally between 2 and 4pm. That’s our aim rather than a guarantee — weather, traffic and the size of the route can shift it. If you’re picking up, your order is ready Wednesday afternoon and stays available Thursday and Friday.
Is there a minimum order?Delivery orders start at $75. Pickup has no minimum at all, so you can order one thing if you like.
How big is a serving?A single serving feeds one adult. As a rule of thumb, for children under 5 or adults over 80, a single serving may feed two. Entrées come in single, two, three or four servings.
Delivery & pickup
Do you deliver to my address? We deliver within 13 miles of the kitchen at 2409 Eastern Ave SE in Alger Heights. Enter your address at checkout and it will tell you straight away. If you’re outside the radius, only pickup will show.
What does delivery cost?Under 2 miles is free. Out to 8 miles is $10, out to 11 miles is $14, and out to 13 miles is $18. That’s the whole cost. No service charge, no fuel fee, no tipping.
Do I need to be home?We recommend it. It’s refrigerated food, and it shouldn’t sit on a porch on a warm afternoon.
Who delivers it?The same driver, week after week. Not a rotating cast of strangers with an app. For customers ordering on behalf of a parent, that familiar face tends to matter as much as the food.
Are you on DoorDash or GrubHub?No. We handle our own deliveries. Some of those companies have listed us without our consent, so if you see us there it isn’t us.

The food
Does it arrive fresh or frozen?Everything arrives fresh unless the dish is specifically marked as sold frozen. Each package carries a cook-or-freeze-by date so you can decide what to eat this week and what to put in the freezer.
How do I heat it?Cooking directions are printed on every package label, along with the full ingredient list. Most entrées arrive cold and need reheating.
Can I freeze it?Yes. Use the cook-or-freeze-by date on the label as your guide.
Do you have gluten free, vegetarian or vegan options?Yes. Dishes are labelled on the menu, and you can see what’s on right now on the menu page. What’s available changes month to month.
What does made from scratch actually mean here?We buy whole carrots and peel them ourselves. We shred cheese off the block. We make our own stocks and dressings with real lemon juice. We leave out more than a hundred common preservatives and additives, and we’re about 90 percent of the way out of seed oils.
The deli case
Can I just walk in?Yes. The deli case is stocked Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm, with entrées and sides. Nothing to arrange ahead.
Can I order the deli sides for delivery?Yes. The same sides are available either way. Add them to your order and they arrive Wednesday with everything else.
Where else can I buy your food?At four Harvest Health Foods stores: Eastern, Cascade, Hudsonville and Holland. Selection varies from store to store and week to week.

Sending meals to someone else
Can I send meals to someone going through a hard time?Yes, and people do it often — after a baby arrives, after a death in the family, during treatment, or when someone simply has too much on their plate. Order to their address and add a note at checkout telling us what you’d like us to say. You don’t need to live nearby, or even in Michigan.
Can you be part of a meal train?Yes, and there are two ways to do it. If you’ve got a date to cover, order a single meal and pick it up yourself — ready Wednesday afternoon and available Thursday and Friday, with no minimum — then take it round on your day. Or have a full week delivered straight to the family’s address for a Wednesday. Either way it arrives ready to heat, with cooking directions on every package. If you’re coordinating dates with other people, call us on 616-822-0706 and we’ll work around the schedule.
What if the recipient can’t be home for the delivery?Tell us at checkout and we’ll do what we can. Because it’s refrigerated food, we’d rather arrange a time that works than leave it sitting out. For gifts especially, a quick call to us on 616-822-0706 is often the easiest way to sort the details.
Catering & gift cards
Do you cater?Yes, for groups of ten or more, with 48 to 72 hours notice. Box lunches, family-style buffets for 20 or more, and à la carte half pans that each serve eight to twelve. Call 616-822-0706 and we’ll work it out with you.
How do gift cards work?Gift cards are bought by phone on 616-822-0706 or by stopping in, and redeemed the same way. If you’d rather send actual meals than a card, you can order straight to someone’s address instead.
